IOM MHD RO Brussels has signed EC DG SANTE awarded Direct Agreement of €1 million for the project ‘Re-HEALTH - Support Member States under particular migratory pressure in their response to health related challenges

13 January 2016 - The European Commission Directorate-General for Health & Food Safety (DG SANTE) has officially announced the signature of the IOM MHD RO Brussels second Direct Agreement for the project ‘Re-HEALTH - Support Member States under particular migratory pressure in their response to health related challenges’. The €1 million project of a total €5.6 million, granted through the Consumers, Health and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA) is part of the actions to support Member States under particular migratory pressure under the EU 3rd Health Programme.

CONFERENCE ON PLANNING & EDUCATING HEALTH WORKFORCE WITHOUT BORDERS

Venue: The International hotel, Golden Sands Resort, Varna, Bulgaria

The Joint Action of Health Workforce organizes a two day conference, co-financed by the EU Health Programme. The event will be held on February 18th and 19th in Varna, Bulgaria in partnership with IOM MHD RO Brussels to tackle the the challenges of health workforce across Europe and even beyond. The conference aims to foster active networking and interactive encounters of Joint Action partners, stakeholders, professional organizations, decision makers and experts in the field of health workforce.

IOM MHD RO Brussels presented the EQUI HEALTH project and plans for further work at the Royal Society of Medicine, UK

2 December 2015 - IOM UK jointly with the IOM MHD RO Brussels and the Royal Society of Medicine, UK organized a Workshop “Addressing complex migration flows in the Mediterranean: spotlight on Syria” in London on the 25th of November 2015. IOM MHD introduced the audiences (health professionals, Ministry of Health experts, and representatives of NGOs facilitating migrants’ access to health services) to the recent developments related to the migratory influx in the Mediterranean region, the level of health provision to migrants in the transit centers established on the Western Balkans Migration Route and the health conditions of the migrants. The latest developments of the EQUI HEALTH project have been also presented during the workshop.

IOM MHD RO Brussels participated at Expert Group meeting on Social Determinants and Health Inequalities organized by DG Santé

30 November 2015 - IOM MHD RO Brussels has been invited by the EC DG for Health & Food Safety (Santé) to attend the Expert Group Meeting on Social Determinants and Health Inequalities on 17-18 November 2015 in Luxembourg. IOM MHD RO took this opportunity to present on the implementation of the three sub-actions of the EQUI HEALTH project (Migrant Health at the Southern EU Borders, Roma Health and Migrant Health. A special focus has been put on the recent addition of a Health Strand to the Migrant Integration Policy Index (within the EQUI HEALTH project framework) and the development of a thematic study on cost of exclusion/ non-provision of health care to irregular migrants in the EU.

IOM MHD RO Brussels presented EQUI HEALTH at ESCAIDE pre-event

30 November 2015 - At the invitation of EC DG for Health and Food Safety (Santé) IOM MHD RO Brussels submitted an abstract of the EQUI HEALTH project and presented developments related to the implementation of this action at a satellite workshop (pre-event) to the European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology (ESCAIDE) conference in Stockholm on the 11-12 November 2015. The workshop focused on “Bridging epidemiology to public health security policy” and it offered to EU experts, project partners and other conference participants the opportunity to exchange information on their work in the field of preparedness and response, and demonstrate how the second EU Health Programme (2008 – 2013) actions outputs have been taken up at national/regional level. One of the important conclusions of the workshop was that improved programming and project implementation using the collective expertise from across Europe can be used to contribute to preventing the impact of infectious diseases outbreaks in Europe. The satellite workshop has been supported by the Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (Chafea) of the EC and developed in collaboration with DG Santé , and the EU MS experts' networks on Health Security.
