IOM MHD RO Brussels and the COST ADAPT network organized an Expert Working Group Meeting on Consensus Guidelines on access to healthcare services for migrants in irregular situations, on 17 March 2016

21 March 2016 - The Migration health Division of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office Brussels and the COST ADAPT network held a an Expert Working Group Meeting (EWG) on Consensus Guidelines on access to healthcare services for migrants in irregular situations in Brussels, Belgium, on 17 March 2016.

Organized within the framework of the Equi-Health project, co-financed by the European Commission’s DG SANTE, the meeting aimed at deciding on an outline for the Guidelines on access to healthcare services for migrants in irregular situations, which will review the known facts and the arguments for change, as well as addressing the political and technical obstacles that have to be tackled.

IOM MHD RO Brussels and the Secretariat General for Public Health Greece organized a Regional Consultation (RC) Health throughout the reception process: Inter-sectorial dialogue, in Athens, Greece, on 8 March 2016.

14 March 2016 - The Migration health Division of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office Brussels and the Secretariat General for Public Health of the Hellenic Ministry of Health held a Regional Consultation (RC) Health throughout the reception process: Inter-sectorial dialogue in Athens, Greece, on 8 March 2016.

Organized within the framework of the Equi-Health project, co-financed by the European Commission’s DG SANTE and with the contribution of IOM MHD HQ and IOM Athens, the Consultation aimed at fostering an inter-sectorial dialogue on migration health and developing recommendations into national and EU-level migration health policy and practice.

IOM MHD (RO Brussels and Rome) held a National Roma Health Workshop with the Ministry of Health Italy for the launch of the National Roma Health Action Plan in Italy

10 February 2016 - IOM Rome organized with the Ministry of Health Italy, and within the framework of the Equi Health project a National Roma Health Workshop “Health Action Plan for and with the Roma communities” on the 8 February 2016 at the Ministry of Health in Rome, Italy. IOM MHD RO Brussels presented the developments related to the Roma Health sub-action, including the Roma Health reports and results, aiming at supporting national authorities in monitoring, sharing and strengthening national approaches to Roma Health.

The Health Action Plan was developed within the National Roma Integration Strategy (NRIS) and with the acknowledged within contributions from IOM’s and taking into account the IOM/Equi-Health multi-stakeholder perspective report on the implementation of the NRIS and other national commitments in the field of health. IOM offers technical capacities to support the implementation and monitoring of the Health Action Plan, in order to guarantee sustainability of action in favor of Roma health populations and to create organizational competence within public health services. Equi-Health is listed in the good practices within the Health Action Plan.

IOM MHD (RO Brussels and HAP Regional coordinator) met with the Hellenic Ministry of Health to discuss current migration health developments, and organized a stakeholder meeting on Training of Health Professionals and Law Enforcement Officers in Athens, ahead of the roll out training the week of 25th January

28 January 2016 - IOM MHD RO Brussels, joined by HAP Regional coordinator, organized meetings with the Hellenic Ministry of Health (Minister Mr. Xantos and Secretary General of Public Health Mr. Baskozos) to discuss on current and future collaborations on migration and health. IOM presented the recent health related activities and project developments within the two direct agreements with EC/DG SANTE, Equi-Health and the recently signed Re-HEALTH as well as on the EC/DG Home large relocation programme through which IOM will support the Government of Greece in relocating 66,400 asylum seekers, eligible for international protection, to 24 EU Member States over a period of two years. As part of the relocation project IOM will provide health assessments, including pre-departure health checks, “fitness for travel” and medical escort services for those migrants selected for relocation, in order to ensure that migrants travel in safety and dignity and public health and safety concerns are addressed.

IOM MHD RO Brussels delivered a statement on “mental health issues in the context of the current migration crisis” at the Joint Action Mental Health and Well-being final conference in Brussels

25 January 2016 - IOM MHD RO Brussels was invited upon referral by the EC to deliver a statement on IOM’s activities on Mental Health issues and raise awareness on the importance to consider migrants and mobile populations in mental health strategies at the Joint Action Mental Health and Well-being final conference held on the 21-22 January 2016 in Brussels.

MHD RO Brussels introduced to the participants a statement by Mr. Guglielmo SCHININA, Head of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and further complemented by IOM MHD RO Brussels on IOM’s actions on mental health related issues in the context of current migration crisis. The statement also highlighted the importance of developing mental health policies and strategies in Europe promoting outreach to migrants and mobile populations as well as the current MH actions within the Equi-Health and Re-HEALTH projects.
