Regional Pilot Intervention on “Health Mediation and the Roma” - 4th Study Visit, 6-8 June 2016, Seville, Spain

27 May 2016 - IOM MHD RO Brussels is jointly organizing with the Comisionada del Plan Integral del Polígono Sur in Seville and CESPYD-University of Seville a fourth Study Visit within the framework of the Regional Pilot Intervention on “Health Mediation and the Roma” in Seville, Spain.

As part of the IOM Equi-Health project, Roma Health action, the Study Visit will gather health mediators and coordinators of programs from Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Ukraine, as well as local health and social services organizations in Seville.

The fourth Study Visit will present the Roma health governance experience in the neighborhood of Polígono Sur in Seville as well as other good practices from local organizations. The meeting will also include discussions on models of health mediation, exchange of experience and field visits in the Roma settlement of El Vacie, Polígono Sur and Torre Blanca.

The Regional Roma Pilot Intervention on “Health Mediation and the Roma” was launched in June 2014 as a follow-up of priorities identified at the first Regional Consultative Committee held in 2013 in Bulgaria and following the Expert Working Group on Health Mediation and the Roma, held in September 2013 in Huelva, Spain; health mediation being one of the priority areas enlisted in EU MS NRIS, health component.

Conference on Migrants and Health actions funded under the Health Programme 2008-2013 and 2014-2020 - Lisbon 12-13 May 2016

18 May 2016 - The Portuguese Directorate General for Health, DG SANTE and CHAFEA organized the Conference on Migrants and Health actions in Lisbon, Portugal on 12-13 May 2016 in collaboration with IOM and ADAPT.

The conference aimed at sharing knowledge and good practices on Health and Migrants and on how to improve Member States’ capacities in tackling health inequalities, acquired through the Health inequalities and Health security actions implemented within the framework of the Health Programme 2008-2013 and 2014-2020.

IOM MHD RO Brussels participated and actively contributed to the plenary and meeting sessions on European actions on Health and Migrations, and on the training and capacity building initiatives, in which the trainings for health professional and law enforcement officers carried out within the Equi-Health projects were presented.

IOM MHD RO Brussels, in collaboration with IOM Lisbon, organizes the EU Level Conference of the EQUI-HEALTH project in Lisbon, Portugal on 11 May 2016

18 May 2016 - The joint conference of the EQUI-HEALTH “Fostering Health Provisions for Migrants, Roma and Other Vulnerable Groups” and ADAPT projects, co-organized by IOM and COST Action IS1103 ADAPT (Adapting European health systems to diversity), took place on 11 May 2016 in Lisbon, Portugal. The event preceded the Conference on Migrants and Health Actions funded under the Health Programme 2008-2013 and 2014-2020 organized by the Portuguese Directorate General for Health, DG SANTE and CHAFEA in collaboration with IOM on 12-13 May 2016.

The joint conference served as a platform to present the outcomes of two key collaborative activities between IOM MHD RO Brussels and the interdisciplinary scientific network of MH experts ADAPT.

IOM MHD RO Brussels and the National School of Public Health Greece carried out Roll-Out Trainings “Migration Health for Health Professionals and Border/Law Enforcement Officers in Greece” in Samos, Chios, and Thessaloniki, Greece, in April 2016

25 April 2016 - The Migration health Division of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Regional Office Brussels and the National School of Public Health Greece, Department of Sociology carried out roll-out training sessions “Migration Health for Health Professionals and Border/Law Enforcement Officers in Greece” in Samos, Chios, and Thessaloniki on 4-5, 7-8, and 19-22 April 2016 respectively.

Organized within the framework of the Equi-Health project, co-financed by the European Commission’s DG SANTE, the roll-out trainings follows the Training of Trainers on Migration and Health organized in Athens in September 2015. The main objectives of the roll out trainings were to present a training package to increase Health Professionals’ (HPs) and Law Enforcement Officers’ (LEOs) understanding of the health-related border policies and procedures, the health challenges faced by migrant populations, and the importance of appropriate and timely referrals to health authorities.

The call was addressed to health professionals, social scientists, law enforcement officers working or planning to work at First Reception. The training session in Samos counted with the participation of 37 professionals, while 27 participants attended the session in Chios.

Conference on Migrants and Health actions funded under the Health Programme 2008-2013 and 2014-2020 - Lisbon 12-13 May 2016

22 April 2016 - Organised by the Portuguese Directorate General for Health, DG SANTE and CHAFEA, the conference aims at sharing good practices implemented in the framework of the Health Programme actions addressing Migrants health needs.

To start on 11 May 2016, the joint conference of the EQUI-HEALTH “Fostering Health Provisions for Migrants, Roma and Other Vulnerable Groups” and ADAPT projects, co-organized by IOM and COST Action IS1103 ADAPT (Adapting European health systems to diversity), will take place as a pre-event of the confernce on Migrants and Health Actions.

The joint conference on 11th May will present the results of research on health care policies concerning migrants in 38 mainly European countries, as well as advocating for policy change across Europe to improve access to appropriate health care services for migrants in an irregular situation.
