IOM MHD RO Brussels participates in a workshop on Health Mediation in Paris

16 December 2016 - The Association pour l'Accueil des Voyageurs (AŠAV) held the workshop Health Mediators: A recognized approach, a job to be promoted in the direction of people in vulnerable situation, on 12 December in Paris.

Organized with the support of Public Health France and the French Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the workshop aimed at discussing the conditions for the recognition of Roma mediation in health.

The meeting was set to review the conditions that guarantee the neutrality and independence of mediators and the capability of moving towards the empowerment of people. In addition, roundtables were also organized to welcome the testimony and expertise of associations, institutions, mediators and health professionals, including representatives from ARS Normandie, ARS Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and ARS Pays de Loire.

The results of the evaluation of the National health mediation programme carried out over the period 2013-2016 were also presented, outlining the work done by health mediators, the main barriers the programmme is facing, and the best practices.

This workshop has the objective of an overall discussion and debate on the progress that is lacking to achieve the recognition of the health mediation profession and to equip the existing and future actors a more solid framework of activities and training.
