IOM MHD Regional Office Brussels carried out together with IOM Lisbon Peer Reviews and Training on migration and health for health professionals in Portugal between September 2014 and February 2016 within the framework of EQUI HEALTH project – “Fostering health provision for migrants, the Roma, and other vulnerable groups”.

In collaboration with the Direcção-Geral da Saúde in Portugal, IOM Rome, IOM Zagreb, IOM Athens and IOM Ankara, the sessions took place in Lisbon, Faro, Algarve, and Porto and counted with representative from Public Health institutions, health professionals, social workers, police health unit’s professionals and academia from different EU MS as well as Turkey.

The aims of the organized activities were to assess the training materials on Migration and Health for Health Professionals (HPs), and to increase the understanding and knowledge of HPs on public health implications of migrants.

Additionally, prior to the training activities, Regional and National Expert Working Group (EGW) meetings on “Piloting of Training Materials on Migration and Health for Health Professionals” were organized on September 2013 in Lisbon. The main goal of the meetings was to discuss the content and relevance of the training modules on Migration and Health developed within the framework of the project “Increasing Public Health Safety Alongside the New Eastern European Border Line” (PHBLM) and to produce a final package on Training of Trainers.
